Nur Köprülü completed her undergraduate degree in International Relations at the Eastern Mediterranean University in 1997 and her master's degree in the same field at the Middle East Technical University (METU-Ankara) in 1999. Köprülü received her PhD degree from the Middle East Technical University (METU-Ankara) in 2007 with her thesis entitled “Consolidating the national identity of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan”. Subsequently, she worked as a short-term visiting researcher at the Queen Mary University of London in the United Kingdom. Köprülü’s academic research area is primarily centred on Middle Eastern politics and the democratization process of the countries in the Arab world in the post-2011 Arab Spring (Uprisings) era. Köprülü examines the consolidation of regimes led by monarchies, and focuses on regime types and opposition in the in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. She published research articles (index in SSCI and ESCI journals in this field), including Middle East Policy, Middle Eastern Studies, Digest of Middle Eastern Studies and British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies. In her recent studies, Köprülü has focused on regime types and the dynamics shaping state-society in the MENA region. Köprülü also has co-authored publications published by Journal of Balkan and Near Eastern Studies, Southeast European and Black Sea Studies and Mediterranean Politics.

In addition, Köprülü has book chapters on Turkish Foreign Policy towards the Middle East region published by distinguished national and international publishing houses. Köprülü recently wrote the chapter entitled “Transatlantic approach to Middle East conflicts and Turkey’s role” in Turkey's Changing Transatlantic Relations, edited by both Eda Kuşku Sönmez and Çiğdem Üstün and published by Lexington Publishing House, and also contributed to the book titled Middle East and Foreign Policy by Prof. Meliha Altunışık with the chapter “Quest for a Balance Between Stability and Change in the Middle East: The Case of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan” published by İstanbul Bilgi University. The policy reports prepared by Köprülü in the field of domestic and foreign policy of the Kingdom of Jordan were also published by the Center for Middle East Studies (ORSAM), Strategic Thought Institute (SDE) and Near East Institute (YDE).

Nur Köprülü was appointed Head of the Department of Political Science in 2016, and the Vice-Dean in 2018 at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, and also to the Executive Board of Centre of Excellence in 2023 at the Near East University.
