Dr. Sait Akşit is an Associate Professor of International Relations and is currently the Chair of the International Relations Department at the Near East University. He received his BSc degree in Business Studies from the University of Wales, Swansea and his MSc and PhD degrees in International Relations from the Middle East Technical University. Dr. Akşit worked as a research assistant at the Department of International Relations, METU between 1998-2005. During this tenure he spent a semester, as a visiting master student, at the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Poland with the Polish Ministry of National Education Scholarship and a year as a doctoral researcher at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy with the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) Ph.D. Fellowship Programme for Integrated Doctoral Studies in Turkey and Abroad in Social Sciences and Humanities. After completing his PhD in 2006, he worked as a research fellow and project manager at the Center for European Studies, METU and thought at various universities in Turkey and Cyprus before joining the Near East University in 2016. His fields of research include Turkey-EU relations, international political economy, transformations in Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans, Turkey and Cyprus. His publications include several articles and book chapters on Turkey-EU relations, Turkish foreign policy and politics, Cyprus and the Balkans.
