Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Özdeşer was born in 1968 in Famagusta. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in Business Administration at Eastern Mediterranean University. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2000 from the Department of Economic Policy at Marmara University. His doctoral dissertation was titled “European Monetary Union, the Euro, the European Union, and Its Possible Effects on the Turkish Economy.” In 1993, he began teaching at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Near East University. He became an Associate Professor in Economics in 2008, and in 2019, he was promoted to Professor in the same field. Prof. Dr. Özdeşer has been serving as the Head of the Department of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Near East University, since the 2001–2002 Academic Year. He is also the coordinator of the Department of European Union Relations, which he founded in 2005, and continues to serve as Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He has made significant contributions to many conferences organized on the economy of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and, during his doctoral studies, collaborated with colleagues to carry out informative work on the European Union for the public. During the tenure of Prime Minister Dr. Derviş Eroğlu, he contributed to a journal published to provide information on EU-related issues. He also represents Near East University at economic meetings organized by the Prime Ministry and the Presidency. Prof. Dr. Özdeşer is a member of the Academic EU–Turkey Network (A-NEST). In 2002, he participated in the United States Visitor Program, where he attended workshops on global economy and politics. In 2024, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Özdeşer was awarded the Dr. Suat Günsel Honor Award Gold Medal. Named after Near East University’s Founding Rector Dr. Suat Günsel, this award aims to recognize and encourage continuous contributions made—particularly to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Turkey, and more broadly to the Turkish world and humanity’s heritage—through advanced and sustained academic work. Placing great importance on spending time with his family and friends, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Özdeşer is married and has one child.
