Dear Students,

Near East University, Department of Political Science offers an education program at internationally acclaimed standards for our students. Our Department was founded in 2006 and has become a well respected and attractive centre in political science education and scientific research. As Aristotle put forward, politics is the way we come to define and pursue our collective objectives and the human beings develop his/ her potential and realizes its natural end in a social context. Thus, the ultimate goal is the achievement of “good life”. Having said this, to define and explain the key concepts, theories, ideas and data in the field of Political Science and as the corollary of this, to analyse comparatively, the structures and political institutions are among the principal goals of this Department. We believe in creating an environment for the students; to be conscious about global, regional and domestic problems such as democracy, political participation, citizenship, human rights, and environmental issues; and to develop responsible attitudes and behaviour; comply with scientific and ethical values.

The department is further strengthened with its modern curriculum, library sources and research centers that were established with the best possible technology and the academic staff who can use the power of scientific education to enlighten the public and embrace the future of the public. The language of instruction is English. The students who have successfully completed the programme should be able to be science-based, skilled and competent political scientists prepared to meet the challenges of practicing political science in the 21st century, and researchers who are prepared to conduct social and political research focused on bettering the human condition and advancing the fundamental understanding of political science.

The Department, therefore, aims to blend education and research and thus distinguish ourselves in the community we serve as a unique institution, aiming to provide students with skills and knowledge in human resource management in accordance with the current needs of local and international organizations and society. Students will thus acquire specific in-depth skills necessary to assist organizations in the effective utilization of employee skills and talent.

At Near East University, like most political science departments, we teach and study political theory, comparative politics, public administration, public policy, international politics, organizations, modern political thought, constitutional law, public finance and political history which helps the students to understand how the thinkers, as well as the leaders in this particular field,  have understood political community, power, legitimacy and forms of government.
