Insurance and Actuarial Sciences Undergraduate Program is a branch of science that analyzes risks in the insurance and finance sector by making use of mathematics and statistics. Actuarial Science deals with the financial effects of unpredictable events affecting human life and property, such as birth, death, sickness, retirement, fire, earthquake, accident. Actuaries analyze the risk of occurrence of these events and receive training to reduce the negative financial impacts that may occur. The actuarial profession is among the top 5 in the top ten professions in terms of wage, prestige and job satisfaction in the United States and Europe. In our department, in the first two years of undergraduate education, basic knowledge courses are given in the fields of Mathematics, Statistics, Computing, Economics, Law, Finance and Actuaries. In the last two years, there are specialized courses such as Financial Mathematics, Financial Time Series, Actuarial Mathematics, Retirement Mathematics, Social Security and Pension Systems, Actuarial Software, Actuarial Risk Theory, Insurance Accounting, Reinsurance, Stochastic Processes.

Actuaries can provide services in all areas that include the concept of risk (uncertainty). In this context, graduates of the department have the opportunity to work as an actuarial specialist in Insurance and Pension Companies, Banks, Financial institutions, Expert and Consultancy companies, Fund management companies, Public institutions (such as the Undersecretariat of Treasury, Central Bank, Social Security Institution), foundations and funds. Therefore, one of the biggest advantages of the program is that it has a wide range of business areas. Another advantage is that with the understanding of the importance of Actuarial Sciences, the need for department graduates increases, there is a wide employment area in the sector and the graduates do not have the risk of being unemployed because there are not many employees in the actuarial profession. In this respect, the most important goal of our Insurance and Actuarial Sciences program is to bring well-trained, knowledgeable, well-equipped individuals who have a solid theoretical infrastructure to meet the needs in the sector and who can apply actuarial models with this solid infrastructure, who can determine and evaluate risk, manage risk with creative strategies.
